Social Media Ideas for January 2018

by Gail Oliver, Online Marketing Consultant

If you like to plan your social media posts in advance (and you should) then it is time to be thinking about January 2018.

Social Media Ideas january 2018

For example, what would your business typically post on January 1st? Happy New Year? This is getting a little old. In these somewhat turbulent times, how about posting #MyHopefor2018 and ask your followers to add their hope in comments.

January is all about winter in most parts of the world, and it is at its best this month (by March we hate it). Therefore, people want to see the beauty of any winter scene be it a frozen lake, snow covered trees or a winter sunset. Add a cool pastel filter and any of these hash tags: #WinterWonderland, #WinterFun, #WinterSun, #Winter2018, #WinterFeels, #WinterReady.

January National Days

I wrote a post a few weeks ago about the popularity of national days on social media, and there will be more than 31 of them again in January. For example, January 24th is #NationalComplimentDay, so why not post something nice about the city you live in (include a hash tag for the city) and see if your fellow citizens also add theirs.

Regardless of the month, you want to always stay of top of the latest social media trends. If you are an online shop or business, one of the hot trends on social media is #s4s, which stands for “shoutout for shoutout“, whereby you promote another business’ social media account (a non-competitive one) and they do the same for you. Just be sure to include the hash tag and then maybe other businesses will take note and ask to join in.

My January 2018 Social Media Content Calendar gives you creative ideas for every day of the month, saving you valuable time with content ideas that will help your business get seen! Also includes valuable tips, advice and post examples. There is a version for Etsy shops and non-Etsy online stores.
