Etsy sellers often ask me if having thousands of listings in their shop is a smart strategy. My answer? It depends.
Here’s why:
Let’s say your shop has 5,000 items listed—but only 1,000 of them are actually selling. That leaves 4,000 listings that aren’t bringing in a dime.
Now, this is where it gets expensive. Etsy charges a $0.20 renewal fee per listing every 4 months, which means you’re paying that fee three times a year. Do the math:
4,000 non-selling listings × $0.20 × 3 renewals = $2,400/year
That’s $2,400 just to keep unsold items sitting in your shop. Ouch.
It might not seem like much per listing, but when you scale that cost, the financial drain becomes very real.
If you haven’t reviewed your shop’s performance lately, this is your wake-up call. Check your stats. If hundreds (or thousands) of listings haven’t sold in over a year, it might be time to clean house. Deactivate the dead weight and focus on what’s working.
